{"id":8756,"date":"2018-08-09T11:54:55","date_gmt":"2018-08-09T11:54:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/practice-school.eu\/preventing-radicalism-through-critical-thinking-competences\/"},"modified":"2018-08-09T11:54:55","modified_gmt":"2018-08-09T11:54:55","slug":"preventing-radicalism-through-critical-thinking-competences","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/practice-school.eu\/da\/preventing-radicalism-through-critical-thinking-competences\/","title":{"rendered":"Preventing Radicalism through Critical Thinking Competences"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\">\n<p>Preventing radicalisation in school by empowering teachers through continuing professional development.<\/p>\n<p>Grant Agreement Number: 2018-1-IT02-KA201-048442<\/p>\n<p><strong>Funded by:\u00a0<\/strong>Erasmus+\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<strong>Duration:<\/strong> 09\/2018-08\/2021<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\" \/>\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\">\n<h3><strong>Challenge<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Schools play a key\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/home-affairs\/sites\/homeaffairs\/files\/what-we-do\/networks\/radicalisation_awareness_network\/ran-papers\/docs\/role_education_preventing_radicalisation_12122016_en.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">role<\/a>\u00a0in preventing radicalisation by promoting common European values, fostering social inclusion, enhancing mutual understanding and tolerance, and developing students\u2019 critical thinking about controversial and sensitive issues as a key protective factor against radicalisation.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/assets\/eac\/education\/news\/2015\/documents\/citizenship-education-declaration_en.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paris Declaration<\/a>\u00a0(2015) states teachers need new skills and competences to deal with complex classroom realities and to confidently respond to diversified groups, while the continuing professional development (CPD) programmes have been recognised as not always sufficiently relevant to teachers\u2019 needs.<\/p>\n<p>In this framework, CPD approaches should be developed to respond to relevant needs and challenges of teaching methods, applicable to diverse learners with the aim to prevent radicalisation.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Innovation<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/practice-school.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>PRACTICE<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>aims at preventing radicalisation in school by empowering teachers through continuing professional development, using participatory methods with schools at local, national and EU level.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Action<\/strong><\/h3>\n<div class=\"wp-block-getwid-accordion has-icon-left getwid-init ui-accordion ui-widget ui-helper-reset\" role=\"tablist\" data-active-element=\"0\">\n<div id=\"ui-id-1\" class=\"wp-block-getwid-accordion__header-wrapper ui-accordion-header ui-corner-top ui-state-default ui-accordion-header-active ui-state-active\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"tab\" aria-controls=\"ui-id-2\" aria-selected=\"true\" aria-expanded=\"true\"><span class=\"wp-block-getwid-accordion__header\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kmop.gr\/projects-vf\/practice-preventing-radicalism-through-critical-thinking-competences\/#\"><span class=\"wp-block-getwid-accordion__header-title\"><strong>Comparative Research on policy and practice on CPD<\/strong><\/span><i class=\"fas fa-minus\"><\/i><\/a><\/span><\/div>\n<div id=\"ui-id-2\" class=\"wp-block-getwid-accordion__content-wrapper ui-accordion-content ui-corner-bottom ui-helper-reset ui-widget-content ui-accordion-content-active\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"ui-id-1\" aria-hidden=\"false\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-getwid-accordion__content\">\n<p>A comparative research report was drafted based on a desk-based research and a primary research through interviews and focus groups with teachers, education professionals and stakeholders. This report includes the context, policy and practices about CPD, critical thinking teaching and radicalisation prevention in schools across Italy, Austria, Denmark, Germany, Greece and UK.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read the report\u00a0<a class=\"rank-math-link\" href=\"https:\/\/practice-school.eu\/resources\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"here (opens in a new tab)\">here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"ui-id-2\" class=\"wp-block-getwid-accordion__content-wrapper ui-accordion-content ui-corner-bottom ui-helper-reset ui-widget-content\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"ui-id-1\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-getwid-accordion__content\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kmop.gr\/projects-vf\/practice-preventing-radicalism-through-critical-thinking-competences\/#\"><span class=\"wp-block-getwid-accordion__header-title\"><strong>PRACTICE Radicalization Prevention Programme (OER)<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"ui-id-4\" class=\"wp-block-getwid-accordion__content-wrapper ui-accordion-content ui-corner-bottom ui-helper-reset ui-widget-content ui-accordion-content-active\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"ui-id-3\" aria-hidden=\"false\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-getwid-accordion__content\">\n<p>A Radicalization Prevention Programme (OER) will be produced, aiming to:<br \/>\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Promote critical thinking and effective strategies to engage with pupils on local, national and international Issues\/Grievances.<br \/>\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Develop \u00a0personal critical thinking skills in pupils by using small group work and other activities.<br \/>\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Address \u00a0controversial issues challenging pupils\u2019 misinformed views and perception.<br \/>\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Challenge false myths and stimulate understanding and appreciation of diversities.<br \/>\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Include basic knowledge on radicalism.<br \/>\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Enhance teachers and school leaders\u2019 skills in identifying potential risks and mitigate them.<\/p>\n<div id=\"ui-id-5\" class=\"wp-block-getwid-accordion__header-wrapper ui-accordion-header ui-corner-top ui-state-default ui-accordion-header-active ui-state-active\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"tab\" aria-controls=\"ui-id-6\" aria-selected=\"true\" aria-expanded=\"true\"><span class=\"wp-block-getwid-accordion__header\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kmop.gr\/projects-vf\/practice-preventing-radicalism-through-critical-thinking-competences\/#\"><span class=\"wp-block-getwid-accordion__header-title\"><strong>Guidelines for teachers<\/strong><\/span><i class=\"fas fa-minus\"><\/i><\/a><\/span><\/div>\n<div id=\"ui-id-6\" class=\"wp-block-getwid-accordion__content-wrapper ui-accordion-content ui-corner-bottom ui-helper-reset ui-widget-content ui-accordion-content-active\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"ui-id-5\" aria-hidden=\"false\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-getwid-accordion__content\">\n<p>The guidelines for teachers provide background, information and advice on how to manage and deal with radicalisation in the school setting.<br \/>\nIts use is two-fold:<br \/>\na. Supporting teachers in the implementation of the programme, including how to implement peer collaborative learning process.<br \/>\nb. Providing the background to ensure that teachers will feel comfortable and confident discussing these subjects.
